/ THE WORK

Por La Libertad de Prensa, 2001
fiberglass

On 25 January 1997 in Buenos Aires (Argentina) the reporter and photographer Josè Luis Cabezas was murdered due to an investigation he was conducting into government activities. Since then, every year, an event called “Camerazo” takes place on that day in which all those present hold a camera in their right hand and raise their arm in the air, as a gesture of remembrance and challenge.
It is to this event that the Argentine sculptor dedicates his work, Por La Libertad de Prensa (i.e., for the freedom of the press). The work is made of polyester resin, fiberglass and stainless-steel inside, materials selected for their durability and resistance to atmospheric agents. Based on the Greek mathematical proportions of the Golden Ratio, this work is not site-specific but rooted in a more traditional sculptural language. Its location, near the old barbed wire fence of the Park, enhances its symbolic content.
