Piero GiadrossiThe way we were

Piero Giadrossi
Italy (1944)
/ THE WORK

The way we were , 2013
teak wood

The installation consists of 9 trunks of dead teak wood, intertwined with nine still living oak trees. It takes its title from the Barbara Streisand song sung in the film of the same name with Robert Redford (“The way we were”, 1973).
The work expresses much more than the passage of time: it alludes to the various problems that can assail nature due to natural disasters but unfortunately, more and more often, due to human intervention. This installation is so cleverly integrated that the inattentive visitor may almost not notice it.

BIOGRAPHY

Piero Giadrossi was born in 1944 in Trieste. He lived in Trieste, Naples and Genoa where he graduated in law and political science. Because of his job he then lived in Germany and England for four years in total. His dream would have been to become an architect but unfortunately the University of Genoa did not have that faculty. Since 2000 his main interest is contemporary art. He founded the Park which opened its doors in 2004, after the recovery work on the forest. For the Park he made “The Way We Were”, he designed the Amphitheatre and the photovoltaic system. For Pievasciata B.A.C. he created the two big Peppers.
