/ THE WORK

COIN DE BOIS BLANC, 2003
white Carrara marble

In a corner of the park this sculpture, made up of multiple blocks of Carrara marble, is revealed when the visitor goes up the path. The stark white of the marble, a natural material, requires immediate attention, shining among the trees, creating a spectacular contrast with the green and brown of the Park. But the first impression is gradually altered with movement. Turning the corner, in fact, what had seemed like a horizontal line of blocks extending vertically in height, reveals itself differently with the appearance of trunks apparently of different heights: the perception of order is destroyed by the sight of a chaotic mixture of blocks. The triangular structure of the work is perceived then, for the first time.
The ancient Greek method of proportions, the Golden Section, creates the triangle as if through the fusion of the blocks. This insertion of geometry in a natural environment also recalls the use of triangular geometry as a method of investigating the Earth, used since ancient times. The composition of the blocks also creates a dialogue with the trees around, with the bifurcated shapes swaying left and right: the work turns its attention to the visible and invisible in art and nature, while disorder gives way to order, through the interaction of the observer.
