SIERRA’S GOLD
Directed by Ascia Ugah – South Africa, 2024 – Running Time 01:37:04 – Feature Film
Zulu with English subtitles
Sierra, a young and eccentric black visual artist from Johannesburg, discovers that she is pregnant by her boyfriend, who is also her manager. Tiro, her boyfriend, presents Sierra with a difficult choice: terminate the pregnancy or lose him forever. Sierra chooses Tiro and takes a strange abortion potion that gives her the inexplicable ability to secrete gold coins. What follows is a series of hilarious and darkly comic events, with Skorra, an Afrikaner pawn shop owner, and his henchmen invading Sierra’s home in the hope of extracting the gold coins. Her loft, once a sanctuary for artistic expression, turns into an unexpected battlefield of ingenuity and determination, where everyone fights for what they want and the pursuit of wealth turns into a deadly battle. Sierra’s Gold is a gripping exploration of love, desperation, and the consequences of choices. This darkly comic journey delves into themes of self-discovery and the shocking revelation that one’s true value is already within oneself.
What is African Diaspora Cinema Festival?
ADCF is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting black stories and images through the exhibition of film, visual arts and other creative expressions. Since 2013, the African Diaspora Cinema Festival (ADCF) has become an international reference point for the film and artistic communities of the African diaspora. The ninth edition of the African Diaspora Cinema Festival will take place from September 3 to 6, 2025. The only film festival in Italy with an African artistic director, the black film and art festival also features live music performances, dance and fashion exhibitions. ADCF screenings and pre-screenings take place each year in different locations: New York University in Florence, Parco Sculture del Chianti, Cinema Giunti Odeon in Florence, Recovery Plan in Florence, Instabile – Culture in Movimento in Florence, Area Verde Camollia in Siena and Cinema Farnese in Rome.
What is ADCF’s Goal?
ADCF’s vision is to raise awareness among the public about African cinema, the diaspora and about Africa, its vast potential and the socio-economic impact it has and can have, not only on African economies, but also on other economic areas. The goal is to use cinema to create a cultural revolution to change the social and economic horizon of Africa, paving the way for the countless amount of films produced in Africa and by filmmakers from the African diaspora
