What is African Diaspora Cinema Festival?
ADCF is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting black stories and images through the exhibition of film, visual arts and other creative expressions. Since 2013, the African Diaspora Cinema Festival (ADCF) has become an international reference point for the film and artistic communities of the African diaspora. The ninth edition of the African Diaspora Cinema Festival will take place from September 3 to 6, 2025. The only film festival in Italy with an African artistic director, the black film and art festival also features live music performances, dance and fashion exhibitions. ADCF screenings and pre-screenings take place each year in different locations: New York University in Florence, Parco Sculture del Chianti, Cinema Giunti Odeon in Florence, Recovery Plan in Florence, Instabile – Culture in Movimento in Florence, Area Verde Camollia in Siena and Cinema Farnese in Rome.
What is ADCF’s Goal?
ADCF’s vision is to raise awareness among the public about African cinema, the diaspora and about Africa, its vast potential and the socio-economic impact it has and can have, not only on African economies, but also on other economic areas. The goal is to use cinema to create a cultural revolution to change the social and economic horizon of Africa, paving the way for the countless amount of films produced in Africa and by filmmakers from the African diaspora
ADCF Legacy
Each year, ADCF continues to receive hundreds of high-quality films from the United States, Africa, the Caribbean, South America, Europe, the South Pacific, Canada and Asia. ADCF annually hosts some of the most promising filmmakers, actors, producers, musicians and fashion designers. It also offers inspiring and informative panels and workshops with top industry professionals and presents rare cinematic gems, followed by Q&As with the filmmakers. ADCF’s “roving” collaboration with other film festivals has thus far been a fruitful and ever-moving journey.
ADCF’s Success
ADCF has gained international recognition for its profound impact on the dissemination of African culture and art and on the entertainment industry. Over nearly a decade, the festival has been a vital platform for filmmakers, artists and artisans from over fifty countries around the world who come to the city of Florence each year to showcase their work and talent.
